Clifford Chance Applied Solutions (CCAS), a subsidiary of Clifford Chance, has been established to develop digital (and other technology-related) products aimed at in-house lawyers, compliance officers and their operational teams. CCAS is uniquely placed to identify and exploit opportunities that lie at the intersection of law and technology, leveraging Clifford Chance's legal expertise, Product Management and Got-to-Market expertise and best-in-class technologies. CCAS has ambitious growth targets – looking to accelerate the growth of its existing portfolio of products and to launch new products.

CCAS is one of three business areas underpinning Clifford Chance's Best Delivery and Innovation strategy. We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working as part of a multidisciplinary and geographically distributed team.
  • Is an effective communicator via phone, email, instant message and video conferencing tools.
  • Is passionate about developing quality products that delight customers.
  • Is an excellent problem solver with an active interest in the latest design and development tools and technologies.
  • Has a hands-on approach and relishes working in a start-up style environment.
  • Defining the technical strategy for CCAS products in line with the CCAS strategy and roadmap (to include benefiting from integration and close collaboration with CC LLP legal technology platforms).
  • Working with others to ensure implementation of the technical strategy. This will include:
  • ensuring external suppliers and their products and services are appropriate from a technology and budgetary perspective.
  • Implementing effective delivery strategies, including testing strategies.
  • Working closely with the Product Management to gain a solid understanding of each of the products to be delivered.
  • Designing system components and recommend appropriate technology and architecture taking into account the product portfolio.
  • Ensuring designs take into account the concerns of security, scalability, compatibility and maintainability.
  • Documenting system designs and communicating them effectively to the development team and other stakeholders.
  • Taking a proactive role in ensuring the quality of the delivery.
  • Mentoring members of the development team.
  • Developing products, including coding/developer testing and creating supporting documentation.
  • Reviewing the technology and architecture of existing products.
  • Participate in Release Planning activities.
  • Product technical support during the sales cycle.

  • A proven track record of breaking down complex market requirements into secure, scalable and resilient system designs.
  • Solid experience of developing online subscription products involving expert content.
  • Solid experience working in collaborative multidisciplinary teams using agile and lean approaches.
  • Solid experience creating maintainable code and using source control solutions such as GIT or TFS.
  • Senior stakeholder management experience.
  • Knowledge of architecture frameworks and methods such as The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) and the ability to develop and maintain personal architectural knowledge, skills and abilities. 
  • Experience of working in online legal (or other professional services) publishing.
  • Experience of solution architecture tools and techniques. 
  • Experience of Scaled Agile practices.
  • Experience of working with tools such as Agile Central.
  • Educated to degree level in a Computing or business discipline or equivalent.
