Job Overview
This role is a great opportunity for a media relations star with good business to business PR experience. Part of the broader Brand, Communications & Marketing team, the successful candidate will play a key role advocating for Clifford Chance in the pursuit of its most critical strategic priorities.
Who you will work with
Working within a friendly team for an international law firm the successful candidate will develop long-lasting relationships with target journalists and play a crucial role in the firm's busy press office.
The UK PR team handles media communications for all activity in London and Newcastle, both planned and reactive, and frequently collaborates with international colleagues in providing support and counsel to our global network of offices. As such you will work with lawyers, management, business development professionals and PR colleagues around the world.
What you will be responsible for
The successful candidate will be responsible for consistently increasing the profile of several practice areas, managing the activity in support of the practices on a day to day basis and supporting in the development of the strategy. This role will also play a key part in supporting the firm's HR/graduate recruitment function and Responsible Business agenda.
What you will do
The candidate will be expected to take a keen interest in the legal sector and the broader business arena and have the ability to translate the intellectual capital of the firm into compelling content for target media outlets.
• Work with priority business areas and PR leads to develop and deliver media relations plans in support of the business strategy
• Actively develop media pitches, through a combination of topical news comment, feature pitches and working with the business to develop newsworthy briefings
• Draft press releases on client work and news about the firm
• Quickly and effectively manage in-bound media inquiries
• Build effective relationships with key journalists and Clifford Chance spokespeople, to ensure that we are able to offer valuable media opportunities to the business and timely insights to the press. Priority media include key national and international business media and quality trade publications
• Support the development of lasting relationships between key journalists and key Clifford Chance spokespeople
• Manage media briefings, including advising spokespeople on media handling and arranging media training where appropriate
• Monitor and pitch for editorial calendar opportunities relevant to the firm's PR priorities
• Keep abreast of current affairs, particularly those that relevant to the environment our clients operate in
• Support the international PR network by sharing successful media approaches and packages, and ensuring that PR work is joined-up across internal communications and marketing channels
• Managing and improving the core operations of the press office
Your career experience so far
Experience
• Experience of working in a busy public relations environment, preferably with agency and B2B exposure
• Successful track record of managing projects and responsibility for the day to day delivery of client account work
• Demonstrable ability to achieve media outcomes that support the organisation's strategic and commercial goals
• Experience of working with professional services clients would be an advantage but is not a prerequisite
Skills and knowledge
• A demonstrable enthusiasm and aptitude for media relations, with evidence of good media relationships and delivering results within tier one media targets
• Persuasive oral and written communication – in particular an ability to produce news-friendly copy, as well as longer feature and opinion pieces
• A good understanding of social media in the B2B context
• Awareness and appreciation of different cultural dynamics within businesses and the media landscape
Qualifications
• Ideally be educated to degree level or equivalent

• Shows commitment to the team and demonstrates reliability as an active participant taking the initiative to help make things happen
