Job Purpose Summary

 
 
 
 

Working for Clifford Chance Business Services Private Limited in our office in Gurgaon (near Delhi, India), you will provide transactional and matter support to our client Clifford Chance, a leading global law firm (see www.cliffordchance.com for further information).

You will work on similar matters to other Consultants, carrying out work to the highest standard and helping other Consultants develop so that they may work to the same standard as you. You may work on complex and/or sensitive matters in which it may not always be appropriate to involve more junior Consultants. You may also assist managers on management of larger projects as and when required.

You will have the opportunity to work with Clifford Chance legal teams across the globe. The specific matters you will work on may vary, but are likely to be related to finance, capital markets, corporate and commercial litigation. All the transactions you will work on will be international in scope, although you will not work on Indian matters, and you will not be giving Indian or other legal advice.

Key Responsibilities

Consultant Responsibilities

You will be required to support lawyers of all levels across Clifford Chance's global network. Typical responsibilities are likely to include:

  • providing transaction support on large, multijurisdictional transactions, such as preparing and updating checklists and organising transaction documentation for pre and post execution formalities;
  • assisting in the preparation of documentation based on templates or previous deal documents;
  • reviewing, collating and indexing documents;
  • reviewing documents for specific provisions and drafting summaries of key terms;
  • carrying out specific pieces of research; and
  • assisting in liaising with counsel in jurisdictions in which our client does not have offices and ensuring that advice received covers relevant issues and is consistent and set out in an appropriate format.
Other Responsibilities

As a Senior Consultant you will also be expected to support the Managing Consultants. Typical responsibilities will include the following:

  • taking responsibility for ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of work product pursuant to instructions and guidelines given by the relevant manager and providing regular feedback to the Managing Consultants and/or Senior Managing Consultants to ensure the highest quality standards are maintained;
  • supporting the managers in managing the utilisation of relevant team members and ensuring time is accurately and promptly recorded;
  • providing or supporting the provision of appropriate training to other team members to ensure skills develop to meet the overall needs of the Legal Support Centre; and
  • providing regular feedback to your manager on relevant team members' performance and discussing development needs and opportunities with the Managing Consultants on a regular basis.
Training

You will be provided with all requisite training to perform your responsibilities. You will also be offered the opportunity to participate in our ongoing training programme, which will enable you to gain and improve a wide variety of business skills, including with respect to legal technology tools.

Skills
  • Although you will not be practising Indian law, you will be required to be qualified as an Indian Advocate in order to ensure that you have received relevant background training to enable you to understand the work of our client.
  • The support you will provide to our client will be within a defined set of processes and tasks, and regular review and supervision will take place. However, you will be required to use your knowledge and experience to identify, analyse and address problems or issues within these processes, gathering information from a wide variety of sources. You will also be expected to generate new ideas and develop best practice approaches.
  • You will be expected to manage difficult clients and work under the pressure of tight deadlines.
  • You will also be expected to be self-sufficient and well-organised in planning your own time.
  • Your decisions will have a direct impact on your Clifford Chance client contacts. As such, you will need a good understanding of each client contact's needs and expectations, as well as the transaction on which he or she is working. You will be accessible to clients, regularly monitoring and reviewing the quality of service given and ensuring that necessary solutions are provided.
  • You will promote openness and trust within the team, encouraging feedback and self development. You will also share best practice with the team, developing a knowledge sharing approach.
  • You will be required to communicate in a clear, concise and logical manner, and be proficient in both written and spoken business English. Documents produced need to be clear and well written.
  • You will have outstanding attention to detail.
  • You will also communicate effectively with others, confidently sharing appropriate information, actively listening and clarifying enquiries through the use of questions and challenging where necessary. In doing this you will build effective and constructive relationships with your client contacts and colleagues.
  • You will be IT literate, and a highly competent user of Microsoft Word and Outlook. You will also be familiar with Microsoft Excel
