 DESCRIPTION: 

 

The primary objective of the Professional Development Supervisor, Assignments is to manage associate staffing, planning and resource management.  The role will interact with the Transactional (Banking & Finance, Corporate and Capital Markets) and Litigation practices. This position will work closely with the Manager to optimize the allocation of work and ensure efficient and appropriate staffing of client matters, business development projects and pro bono initiatives while also supporting associate development. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 


  • Oversee staffing of time-sensitive attorney & law clerk assignments according to associate interests/availability 

  • Meet with associates to discuss their schedule, utilization and area(s) of interest  

  • Track associate billable and non-billable hours 

  • Create monthly staffing reports to determine associates’ individual workflow capacities, and flag potential staffing issues or opportunities  

  • Communicate with partners and senior associates regarding staffing needs and ask appropriate questions to identify effective solutions 

  • Liaise with Practice Area Leaders regarding utilization and availability 

  • Partner with attorneys in assigned practice groups to develop tailored practice group mentoring, training and development initiatives 

  • Develop relationships with associates in order to serve as a resource for questions regarding their individual professional development 

  • Draft associate performance memos based upon feedback regarding the associate’s performance 

  • Implement initiatives related to leadership development, morale and engagement 

  • Liaise with other colleagues in Professional Development regarding potential training programs  

  • Identify associates interested in client or Firm secondments, assist with secondment arrangements 

  • Serve as primary back-up to Manager, providing coverage as needed  

  • Work on various assignments/projects/initiatives as needed 

 


 REQUIREMENTS:  

 

  • Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred 

  • Minimum of four years' resource management or staffing experience required working at a law firm or other professional services firm.  Professional Development experience a plus 

  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize competing demands to meet deadlines 

  • Strategic thinker with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities 

  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high pressure environment 

  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 

  • Ability to make effective decisions using sound judgment 

  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain strong internal working relationships with all levels in the organization 

  • Excellent organizational and client service skills 

  • Proficiency in MS Office (highly proficient in Excel) 

  • As this is an attorney-facing role, telecommuting is not an option 

  • Must be independently legally authorized to work in the United States
