The Practice

Our dedicated Real Estate Finance and Structured Debt team is consistently ranked as Tier 1 real estate finance and securitisation practices in the UK, Europe and globally.  We are at the forefront of market trends and developments and have a strong bench of practitioners who are recognised in the market as leaders in the field, with a broad experience and a unique blend of specialist know-how.


Our real estate finance and structured debt practitioners have an in-depth understanding of the commercial real estate sector and financing products in that market (e.g. bi-lateral loans, syndicated loans, sub-participated debt, mezzanine loans, development finance, CMBS/RMBS and other capital markets products).


Advising lenders, borrowers, investors and arrangers means that we have an excellent overview of the aims and needs of different participants.  

The Group

Clifford Chance's Real Estate Finance & Structured Debt team remains at the cutting edge of the market. We advise a wide range of clients  particularly European and US commercial and investment banks, non-bank debt providers, funds, real estate investors and developers and corporates on all aspects of debt participation in real estate related transactions in the UK and internationally.

The Real Estate Finance and Structured Debt team in London is made up of 11 Partners and approximately 60 lawyers and trainees.

Have responsibility for drafting legal documents clearly and concisely.

Create solutions using your legal knowledge, applying effective research techniques.

Challenge and test advice against legal compliance and risks.

Be proactive to pursue and expand legal knowledge to ensure legal knowledge and technical expertise up to date.

Utilise client focus initiatives in terms of driving ​understanding and monitoring service levels of their individual client needs.

Engage with knowledge resources effectively and collaborate in knowledge initiatives for the Firm.

Manage matters with a disciplined practice - comprising of timely timesheet submission, adhering to matter opening and conflicts clearance processes.

Adopt best delivery tools: e.g. templates, Legal Support Centre, Resource Management, Legal Project Managers, Matter Balance Reports.

Manage your self-development – ensure annual completion of mandatory and relevant skills, risk and legal training.

Take full participation in the annual appraisal process.

In terms of general practice skills, candidates should be well organised and commercial in their approach. Excellent drafting skills are also important.


We are seeking a qualified lawyer who can demonstrate mid-level post qualification experience in real estate finance and/or structured debt.  


Your knowledge and experience will probably have been gained at a leading practice with a reputation for work in real estate finance and structured debt.


A strong academic history is essential. 

In order to provide outstanding client service, we need to understand, anticipate and fulfil the unique needs and expectations of each client. We are looking for lawyers who:
