Our Legal Technology Solutions function covers the core innovative technology areas of Knowledge Systems, Lawyer Productivity Tools, Client Systems & Digital Marketing, and Data Science.

Real-time, intelligent and data driven interactions are becoming the foundation for delivering our overall business strategy. The Lawyer Productivity portfolio is crucial part of this drive and includes document management, document production, legal workflows, transaction management and  social & mobile applications.

 
Job Purpose
 

The remit of the Director of Lawyer Productivity Solutions Portfolio is to be accountable for the overall productivity capabilities provided to and adopted by Lawyers across the global Firm. Furthermore, operating as a trusted advisor to the Firm, it is crucial the role holder ensures that the overall Lawyer Productivity Solutions Team aligns with the global Firm's business objectives and positively impacts on profitability by protecting revenue and driving efficiencies.  

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountability for the big picture roadmap of the Lawyer Productivity portfolio and implementation in line with the wider Legal Technology Solutions strategy.  
  • Devising and executing the overall strategy of the Firm's global Lawyer Productivity Solutions Portfolio, e.g. Document Management, Document Production Toolkit (including Office and various specialist tools), transaction management, Robotics Process Automation Center of Excellence, Office 365 functional needs and various other legal specific applications and services.
  • Driving the promotion of the Lawyer productivity tools across all regions and offices of the Firm, articulating the return on investment, while demonstrating the benefits to the Firm and its clients through internal communication channels, and building a global network.  
  • Contributing and feeding into the development of the Legal Technology strategy. Playing a key part in driving lean and agile thinking, and driving adoption of cloud services for the Firm.
  • Driving adoption and change management integration through the use of "Best Delivery" by devising and executing creative solutions to heavily influence key senior stakeholders across the Firm.
  • Ensuring maximum engagement of end users by understanding and overcoming challenges to adopting the most appropriate  technology through a consistent global approach to usage whilst considering cultural variations.
  • Developing metrics and reports that allow the organisation to gauge the success and investment in digital workplace and Lawyer productivity tools.
  • Developing strong channels of communication with practice area Legal Tech Delivery Advisors to drive best practice, whilst championing relevant tools.
  • Key representative of the Firm for practical discussions with external clients on Lawyer productivity capability in conjunction with other key contacts across "Best Delivery" and Innovation.  
  • Accountability of ensuring our tools and systems are aligned with the requirements of the Firm's clients, by gaining a broad understanding of client demands and how the Firm services them.    
  • Operating as a key relationship director demonstrating deep understanding of the client and the relativity to all IT tools and systems
  • Driving global projects which incorporate embedding Lawyer productivity tools and, where appropriate, becoming an active member of broader projects initiated in other departments.
  • Accountability for reviewing, monitoring and enhancing  the user experience of the Lawyer productivity tools across the portfolio, development of global best practice and standards.
  • Setting, managing and monitoring the operational budget for the central Lawyer Productivity Solutions Portfolio. Driving discussions on projections of investment requirement to shape future investment spend.
  • Collaborating with the wider IT function, particularly teams across infrastructure, desktop and other product management, to plan future platforms and developments. Influencing key vendors within the technology and cloud space to influence their roadmap.
  • In conjunction with the wider Legal Technology Solutions group, to ensure collaboration with the Brand, Coms & Marketing.
  • Managing and developing the Lawyer Productivity Solutions teams in London & Delhi, to ensure Product Managers/Owners and their teams are aligned to the overall legal technology strategy. Delivering success through the management of these individuals through the alignment of their objectives to the strategic agenda to ensure efficient and timely delivery of projects.
  • Operate as the Onshore "business owner" of the Lawyer Productivity Solutions portfolio based offshore in Delhi. 

 

Key Requirements

 

Desired experience, knowledge and qualifications:

 
  • Experience in a similar leadership role with a strong track  record of team management or function ideally within a professional services organisation.
  • In-depth understanding of a partnership environment and culture. Must be able to operate as an effective change agent.
  • Strong leadership experience; you will have experience in leading, managing and coaching high performing teams.
  • Experience of championing digital workforce productivity/technology and driving initiatives on it's adoption.  
  • Experience of and knowledge relating to all areas of the operational and financial running of a particular function.  Including financial planning where budgeting is advantageous.
  • Beneficial to have exposure to technologies applicable for Lawyer Productivity applications and understanding the needs of the Lawyer and Business Services community in relation to accessing knowledge.
  • Strong ability to develop trusted network within organisation amongst global peer group and senior stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
  • Commercial operational experience – understanding and experience of working on projects across a matrixed organisation  and multiple locations.
Strategic thinking:
  • Demonstrate ability to operate as an effective change agent, identifying initiatives and their implementation within a partnership environment.
  • Able to deliver assured strategic advice within the specialism of digital workplace productivity  technology.
  • Solution orientated with a proactive/forward-thinking approach.
  • Able to set challenging but realisable strategic goals.

Communication and presentation skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with proven experience of building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to work effectively and co-operatively with senior stakeholders, across borders and in a matrixed organisation, is vital.
  • An accomplished presenter, with the ability to synthesise and summarize the salient points of a project or initiative;
  • Strong listening skills and the intellectual rigour and insight to be credible with groups of partners.
  • Strong ability to understand and influence technical audiences whilst also articulating concepts and ideas to non-technical and sometimes stakeholders.
  • Ability to drive collaboration and influencing teams in other functions across the global network.

Organisation and time management skills:

  • Highly organised and structured approach to tasks; whilst able to balance long term and short term priorities.
  • Capability to prioritise and manage both proactive and reactive tasks and requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time with different internal and external stakeholders, making pragmatic and practical decisions about how initiatives should be implemented.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and excellent time management skills including exceptional skills in supporting team members and delegating effectively;
