Job Overview
The Commercial Pricing Specialist role sits under the Order to Cash – Commercial Finance function within the Finance team, servicing our global network. The team are regarded as the experts in their field providing high quality commercial pricing support, commercial insights and analysis.


Who you will work with
You will work closely with the Commercial Pricing Team; Global Commercial Director; Director of Commercial Finance; Partners, Global Practice Area Leader and Global Practice Area Manager within L&DR; colleagues across the Finance and other Business Professional functions (including Business Development and Best Delivery), as well as Clients.


What you will be responsible for
The role of the Commercial Matter Pricing Specialist is primarily focussed on:

Supporting the Global Commercial Director and Director of Commercial Finance in driving the Firm's strategic pricing objectives, commercial standards and pricing governance.

Supporting the Global Practice Area Leader and Global Practice Area Manager within L&DR to provide client and matter pricing support and drive pricing initiatives within the L&DR pricing governance framework.

Raising commercial awareness with Partners and influence matter pricing decision making.

Delivering pricing support and commercial analysis with a focused, co-ordinated and consistent approach.

Producing pricing models, negotiation strategies and commercial analysis and insights for matters and provide support throughout the pricing process.

Ownership of creation, analysis, reporting and submission of pricing proposals to Practice Area management as required.

Client facing, engaging with client procurement in matter fee negotiations and supporting the Partners throughout.


What you will do

Pricing
Work closely with Partners to formulate pricing, develop negotiation strategies and support pricing negotiations on behalf of the firm.
 
Identify opportunities to deliver additional value to clients through alternative fee arrangements.

Identify and develop pricing templates.

Guide on participation in competitive tendering processes, including client use of e-Auctions.

Undertake internal matter pricing review benchmarking. 

Contribute to the evolution of the commercial pricing function and work within a global commercial pricing community.

Ensure adherence to the Firm's commercial standard and pricing governance.

Continually refine governance tools and processes in line with market developments.

Develop and submit pricing proposals to the appropriate governance committees.

Train and up-skill fee earners and business services across the network to extend the coverage of the global pricing community.


Team
Work as part of a highly skilled and knowledgeable team creating a "go to", trusted and highly valued function.
 
Report to the Director of Commercial Finance and work closely with Order to Cash team colleagues sharing knowledge.
Your career experience so far

Skills
You will be:

A commercially focused individual with a proven ability to influence Partners and senior stakeholders.

A strong communicator who can explain commercials with sufficient gravitas to influence Partner decisions.

A commercially astute and strong negotiator who can hold/protect margin in contract discussions whilst taking on responsibility for liaising with client procurement functions.

Able to work autonomously but under firm guiding principles.


Experience
You will have:

Experience of providing matter pricing support within a law firm or professional services environment.

Experience of scenario modelling/compiling pricing proposals and you will have an understanding of the levers to deliver client value and commercially viable pricing.


Knowledge 
You will be a finance/procurement expert who understands and can balance the sensitivities of dealing with Partners and clients on matter pricing.


Qualifications
You will ideally be a qualified Accountant and/or Member of CIPS, or equivalent.
